A little bit of history

Sklavi is a small village on the way to south coast, 19 km from Sitia. It is claimed that its name (means slaves) is due to its settlement with Slavic families after the liberation of Crete from the Arabs in 961 A.C. At the near by hills called Farmakefalo, 2 Minoan tombs were excavated. In front of the village on the road there is a magnificent Ottoman fountain.
